Sheila Lukins takes a table for 'Ten' and spills the beans at the Miami Book Fair 2008
We knew she could cook, but who knew she could tell a good story, too? The bestselling author of Silver Palate, which is now in its 25th year of publication, Sheila Lukins served up the story of her life in food and cooking at the 2008 Miami Book Fair, beginning with how she got her first big break and became 'The Other Woman.' Lukins then dished stories about how she and Julee Rosso started a food store called 'The Silver Palate' on Columbus Avenue in New York City, with a little help from New York Times food writer Florence Fabricant and her neighbor at the time, John Lennon, who was one of her more appreciative customers. Lukins went on to describe the highlights of her career, from the publication of The Silver Palate (Workman Publishing, 1982) to her work with United Airlines and Jacques Pepin. Taking questions from the audience, Lukins described the inspiration for, and recipes from, her latest cookbook, Ten (Workman Publishing; November, 2008) and reflected on the dangers of peanut allergies.
